365: Barbara Thurston

Do you criticize people or lift them up

7.26.15 Do you criticize people or lift them up? It seems to me that there are some people that are not happy unless others are miserable. What if the shoe was on the other foot? Would you be happy, sad or maybe even a little mad? Ever noticed even in some work places there is more criticism then praise for the good job your doing?

Romans 14:10 “Why do you criticize and pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you look down upon or despise your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of God.
(12) And so each of us shall give an account of himself - give an answer in reference to judgment - to God.
(13) Then let us no more criticize and blame and pass judgment on one another, but rather decide and endeavor never to put a stumbling block or an obstacle or a hindrance in the way of a brother.”

The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines criticism as “an act of criticizing; to judge as a critic; to find fault; to blame or condemn.”

As we have read, the scriptures tell us not to tear down our brethren through criticism or judgment, as this can pose a serious stumbling-block and cause irreparable damage to their faith.
Among God’s warnings to us in scripture, there are none more somber or serious than His warning to not become a stumbling block to His followers. “...whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea” (Matt. 18:6).
There’s an old saying that “We tend to judge others by their actions, and we judge ourselves by our intentions.” The truth is, we cannot rightly judge anyone else, because we do not know the contents of their heart. We should be content to judge only ourselves and seek to bring our own lives in alignment with God’s Word (1 Cor. 11:31).

A “critical spirit,” is an obsessive attitude of criticism and fault-finding, which seeks to tear others down — not the same thing as what is sometimes called “constructive criticism.” The only criticism that is ever constructive is that which is expressed in love to “build up,” not to tear down — it is always expressed face-to-face, never behind their back.
The person with a critical spirit usually dwells on the negative, seeks for flaws rather than good. They’re a complainer, usually always upset, and generally have a problem or a complaint about something. They often have little control over their tongue, their temper, and have tendencies for gossip and slander, which Paul said were sins “worthy of death” (Rom. 1:29-32).

Have you ever heard the saying if you can't say something nice then don't say nothing at all? Well maybe we should all practice that saying a little more.

God I come to you asking you to forgive me if I ever criticize someone and bring them down and I ask you that you soften their hearts if I ever do that so they will forgive me also. I know God that we are only human but we have a lot of faults and I'm so glad you are there to love us when no one else does. You forgive us even when others can't find it in their heart to forgive us. God I come to you praying that if there is anyone out there that is going through something like this to please pick up the phone and make amends with the person or persons right now before it's too late. We are not promised even the next minute and we don't know when Jesus will return to call us home, so today is the day to make things right. Lord please be with my facebook family and friends and know that I love you. I ask these things in Jesus Name Amen

When will Jesus return

7.25.15 You ever thought when will Jesus return? There's another question that needs to be asked, "are you going to be ready?"

Mark 13:32"However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.

We can see certain signs, or clues (Matthew 24:3 Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives. His disciples came to him privately and said, "Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will signal your return and the end of the world?*") that His coming is approaching. Jesus said there would be wars and rumors of wars, revolutions, widespread famine, disease, and earthquakes in many different places, (Matthew 24:6 And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don't panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won't follow immediately.
7 Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world.) There would be an increase of lawlessness and anarchy. The apostle Paul said, "That day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God" (2 Thessalonians 2:3 Don't be fooled by what they say. For that day will not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of lawlessness* is revealed—the one who brings destruction.* 4 He will exalt himself and defy everything that people call god and every object of worship. He will even sit in the temple of God, claiming that he himself is God.) Along with the "man of sin" will come what is called an apostasy, or a falling away. Many of the believing people will grow cold in their faith, (Matthew 24:12 Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold.) There will be persecution of Christians and a time of general trouble. Jesus said, however, that the one major thing which would herald His coming would be the proclamation of the gospel. He said, "This gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come" (Matthew 24:14 And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations* will hear it; and then the end will come.) These are signs of the times. We are to hold ourselves always ready for our Lord's return. But nobody knows the day and hour when that will be.

Jesus promised His disciples He would come again. It's in the Bible, John 14:1-3, "Let not your heart be troubled. You are trusting God, now trust in Me. There are many homes up there where my Father lives, and I am going to prepare them for your coming. When everything is ready, then I will come and get you, so that you can always be with Me where I am. If this weren't so, I would tell you plainly. And you know where I am going and how to get there." It's in the Bible, Acts 1:10-11, "It was not long afterwards that He rose into the sky and disappeared into a cloud, leaving them staring after Him. As they were straining their eyes for another glimpse, suddenly two white-robed men were standing there among them, and said, 'Men of Galilee, why are you standing here staring at the sky? Jesus has gone away to heaven, and some day, just as He went, He will return!'" How will Jesus come again? It's in the Bible, Luke 21:27, "At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory."

So my question still stands, "when Jesus returns will you be ready?"

Recently an elderly gentleman asked me when I thought Jesus Christ would return. I told this man the truth—nobody knows. But the Bible is clear—He is returning, He said so Himself. If you read God’s Word, I believe that we are in the last minutes of the last hours on God’s clock. Christ could return at any moment. The point is, all of us need to be ready to stand before God and give to Him an account for our lives. For those who have put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ, we know that our sins have been forgiven and we will not stand in the judgement of Almighty God for our sins. The Bible says, “Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matthew 24:44). Are you ready? If you’re not sure that you are, right now sincerely pray a prayer like this: “Dear God, I am a sinner. I’m sorry for my sin; please forgive me. I believe Jesus Christ is Your Son and that He died for my sins and You raised Him to life. I want to invite Him into my heart to take control of my life. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.” Franklin Graham

God I come to you praying that those out there that are not ready that they get ready because we don't know the hour when Jesus will return. We need to be ready and waiting for His return. I love you Lord and I'm glad you came into my heart and became my Savior. Please Lord be with my facebook family and friends. I ask these things in Jesus Name Amen

God's promises

7.24.15 Have you ever thought about the promises of God?
There is power in the promises of God, sometimes it feels like it may take a while to figure out that whatever happened, happened for our good. Remember no matter what your going through you are never alone because God is always with you. Let's look at a few of God's promises. After we look at them claim them for your own.

The Promise of Eternal Life
John 10:27-28 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.

God Will Supply Your Needs
Philippians 4:19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Thank about that God will supply every need, yes it said need not want. Don't get me wrong God will let you have things you desire from time to time but He makes sure you have everything you need.

You Are Not Alone, God Is With You
Matthew 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
So who else do you know is going to be with you till the end? Yes of course you may have a friend that may be there for you, but God will be there with you for eternity.

God Will Give You Strength
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

God’s Grace Is Sufficient For Us
2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

God Will Provide A Way Out of Temptations In Your Life
1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
God will help you with your temptation if you just let Him. If you feel tempted to do something that you know you shouldn't just ask God to take it away from you. I remember years ago I use to curse, I decided if I was going to follow God then I needed to clean my language up. So I decided to ask God to take it away from me and guess what He did. So if you have a problem with something just go to God and give it to Him.

Nothing Can Separate Us From The Love of God
Romans 8:37-39 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

This is just a few promises of God I thought I'd share with you. There are a bunch of promises in the Bible. I just want to ask you has someone ever promised you something or promised you they'd do something for you? Well sometimes those promises got broken. I'm here to tell you God never breaks His promises.

God I'd like to think you for your many promises and being there to love us when we are not very lovable. Sometimes we don't even love ourselves but you love us no matter what. Be with my facebook family and friends and know that I love you. I ask these things in Jesus Name Amen.

Things happen for a reason

7.23.15 Things happen for a reason and if you let God lead you will be stronger for them. Everyone makes mistakes of some kind and we learn from those.

“Let go of your concerns! Then you will know that I am God. I rule the nations. I rule the earth.” (Psalm 46:10)

When you wake up in the morning you need to ask yourself this question, who is in control of my life today? Repeat the following: “God, I’m giving up control, because you can control the things that are out of control in my life.”

Psalm 46:10 says, “Let go of your concerns! Then you will know that I am God. I rule the nations. I rule the earth”

No one knows what they are going to be going through but God wants us to let go and let Him be in control. Sometimes when things seem to be out of control instead of asking God to help you through we tend to have our-self a pity party.

Serenity Prayer
Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971)
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
enjoying one moment at a time;
accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
that I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
forever in the next.
Amen.

"ALL THINGS work together for GOOD to them that love God."--Romans 8:28.

Here's a little story I found while studying tonight I hope you enjoy it. One chilly winter morning, a fishing fleet launched out from a small harbour on the east coast of Newfoundland. In the afternoon there arose a great storm. When night settled, not a single vessel of all the fleet had found its way back into port. All night long, wives, mothers, children & sweethearts paced up & down the windswept beach, wringing their hands & calling on God to save their lost loved ones. To add to the horror of the situation, one of their cottages caught fire. Since the men were away, it was impossible to put out the blaze & save it. When morning broke, to the joy of all, the entire fleet had returned safely to harbour in the bay. But there was one face which was a picture of despair--the wife of the man whose home had been destroyed in the fire. Meeting her husband as he landed, she cried, "oh, Honey, we are RUINED! Our home & everything in it was destroyed by fire!" But the man exclaimed to her surprise, "THANK GOD for that fire! It was the light of our burning cottage that safely guided the whole fleet into port!"

Jesus has told us, "I am with you ALWAYS, even unto the END of the World."--Matthew 28:20. He also promises, "I will NEVER leave you nor forsake you!"--Hebrews 13:5. Even through the DARKEST and most trying times, the Lord is always "a Friend that sticks closer than a brother!"--Proverbs 18:24. "Yea, even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of DEATH, I will fear no evil, for THOU art WITH me!"--Psalm 23:4. No matter WHAT hard turns your road may take, Jesus is WITH you, He CARES and He will somehow work even the seemingly darkest and most discouraging circumstances and conditions together for your good.--He's PROMISED to!

Sometimes we stand at at life's crossroad,
And view what we think is the END,
But GOD has a much BIGGER vision
And He tells us it's only a BEND.

--For the road goes on & is smoother,
And the pause in the song is a rest,
And the part that's unsung & unfinished
Is the sweetest & richest & best!

So rest & relax & grow stronger,
Let go & let God share your load,
Your work is not finished or ended,
You've just come to a BEND in the road!

So when you find yourself having issues go to God and ask Him what you can do to change your circumstance.

Things don't just happen to Children of God,
They're part of a wonderful PLAN;
The troubles, reverses, the sorrows, the rod
Are strokes of the Great Sculptor's hand

Things don't just happen to Children of God,
The blueprint was made by HIS hand;
He designed all the details to conform to His Son;
So all things that happen are PLANNED.

No matter what happens to those called "His Own",
Events that are awful or grand;
Every trial of your life He sends from His throne;
Things don't just happen, they're PLANNED!

So always remember, the Lord LOVES you, and life's DARKEST hour is often just before DAWN! WHATEVER trials may befall you, don't despair, don't give up, don't lose hope!--But look to JESUS in your time of trial, claim and cling to His promises and believe His Word--that whatever it is you're going through, He will truly work it together for your GOOD--and He WILL! He HAS to, it's His PROMISE! He NEVER fails! Amen? GOD BLESS YOU!

God I come to you thinking you for our mistakes that make us stronger and closer to You. I just pray for others that are having hard times and not realizing what they need to do to make times better. I pray that one day they will wake up and realize You are the only way. Lord please be with my facebook family and friends and know that I love you. I ask these things in Jesus Name Amen.
